American Idol set to relaunch with Katy Perry in 2018

American Idol is already preparing a television return in 2018, and Katy Perry is in talks to appear as the show’s top judge.
It seems like American Idol has only just left the air. Honestly, I hadn’t even thought about starting to miss it yet. But the singing competition is already getting ready to make a television return. In 2018, the show will return for a sixteenth season on the ABC network, moving away from its former home on FOX.
While we do have some time to wait for the show’s return next year, news is already coming out about who will appear on it. TMZ is reporting that pop superstar Katy Perry is in talks to join the show as a judge. The report notes that ABC is likely to officially mention Perry’s involvement within the week.
What’s also important to note is that the reason for American Idol ending on FOX was because the show became far too expensive to produce. With that said, it’s unlikely Perry will be joined by other big name stars. TMZ claims that ABC isn’t even going to announce the other judges, but they’ll likely be a producer and a songwriter. However, Ryan Seacrest will “almost certainly” return as the show’s host, according to the report.
Perry’s not known for having a sharp personality — she always seems so sweet. Don’t expect her to be as vicious as Simon Cowell is. But having as many big hits as she does, Perry will make a great judge because she clearly understands the industry.

It seems too soon for a reboot of the series, but having a new network completely repackage it could make it fresh again. We’ll have to wait and see. Look out for the series to premiere on ABC sometime in 2018.
