James Corden duets with Meghan Trainor on “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” during her LA concert.

James Corden stepped in for John Legend when he joined Meghan Trainor on stage to duet on the love song “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre on Friday night.

Before introducing the Late Late Show host as a surprise guest, Trainor told the crowd, “I wanna sing for everyone who has lost their lives, I wanna sing for everyone who still has their lives and is here today,” according to Billboard. Corden, clad in a blue polo shirt and jeans, then came out and helped deliver a smooth rendition of the ballad.

Trainor later went on to thank Corden after the show:

Trainor is currently on her Untouchable summer tour along with actress-singer Hailee Steinfeld and the Common Kings. During the packed show in LA, she also covered Drake’s No. 1 hit “One Dance” off his hit album Views.

Corden routinely shows off his vocal skills on his late-night series, and even demonstrated his rap abilities during a recent “Carpool Karaoke” segment with First Lady Michelle Obama and Missy Elliott. The Brit first became known to American audiences thanks to his role in the musical Into the Woods alongside Anna Kendrick and Meryl Streep, which helped lead to his hiring by CBS to replace Craig Ferguson as host of The Late Late Show, for which he received four Emmy nominations this year.

The seamless partnership between Corden and Trainor may hint at a future “Carpool Karaoke” appearance. The duo previously teamed up on the late-night series for a New Year’s resolution music video called “All About That Change,” a riff on the singer’s breakout hit “All About That Bass.”
