The Late Late Show host consoles Chris Evans following his exit from Top Gear, as well as allegations of sexual assault.

During The Late Late Show’s hiatus, James Corden was spotted out for lunch with Chris Evans, who announced he was stepping down as co-host of Top Gear earlier in the week. The news came the same day that it was revealed that the TV and radio personality was being investigated over allegations of sexual assault that took place in the 1990s, which he has since denied.

Evans resigned from the revamped version of the BBC motoring show amid viewer backlash, low ratings — reaching under 2 million viewers for its final episode of the season — and reports of friction with his co-host, actor Matt LeBlanc.

He made the announcement on Twitter last Monday, writing:

Corden and Evans, wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap, were seen laughing and embracing one another at a London cafe where they met with writer and comedian Danny Baker, who served as an advisor on Top Gear. According to the Daily Star, Corden is in town taping episodes of the Sky game show A League of Their Own, which he hosts.

Evans and LeBlanc were hired to front Top Gear after original co-host Jeremy Clarkson was fired for verbally and physical attacking one of the show’s producers, after making several controversial remarks throughout the years. He and his fellow former Top Gear presenters James May and Richard Hammond have since gone on to begin filming a new motoring series titled The Grand Tour for Amazon, which is set to premiere later this year.

Corden, for his part, has continued to find success with The Late Late Show, which will finally be broadcast in the UK starting next month on Sky. Ratings for the CBS late-night series have remained stable despite a relatively weak lead-in, while numerous of his “Carpool Karaoke” clips have gone viral on YouTube, exposing him to audiences worldwide.
