Time out for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon – here’s what’s next

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has turned off the lights. But the late-night TV show and host Jimmy Fallon won't be off the air for too long.

Fallon wrapped up 2024 last week, welcoming one final batch of A-list stars to the Tonight Show studio. It also came as he closed out his annual sweater giveaway and threw in some holiday songs and parodies, too.

But don't expect to hear from Fallon or any of his celebrity guests for the time being. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is done for the year.

Starting on December 23, NBC will air repeat episodes during the show's normal timeslot. Monday night will replay the December 10 episode featuringJohn Mulaney, Linda Cardellini, Julien Baker & TORRES .

Revisit appearances by Martin Short, Chloe Fineman, Gwyneth Paltrow, DJ Khaled, TV On The Radio, Ray Romano, and Rosé during the rest of the week.

What's next for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon?

The holiday season means Jimmy Fallon and his team at The Tonight Show get a well-deserved break. But they'll be back and ready to roll in 2025.

An official return date hasn't been announced, but the calendar and history could provide some clues. New Year's Day falls on a Wednesday. That means it's unlikely Fallon will return just for the remaining two nights.

The more likely scenario is that The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon restarts on Monday, January 6. That gives Fallon and the team a little extra time to relax and a full week to work with when they do return.

And that return will kick off Fallon's latest contract with NBC. Earlier this year, he network signed the Tonight Show host to an extension through 2028.

It came after varying reports suggested Fallon was uncertain about his late-night TV future. Other hosts have even questioned how the genre will survive the changing media landscape. But apparently, those concerns are for another day as Jimmy Fallon, and The Tonight Show, prepare for 2025.
