Jimmy Fallon is allegedly concerned about The Tonight Show's cancelation
The Tonight Show is the late night talk show. It's Johnny Carson, it's Jay Leno, it's Conan O'Brien (before it was Leno again). The pedigree is second to none, which is why Jimmy Fallon is worried about the show's future.
Fallon has been leading The Tonight Show since 2014, and while he has done a skillful job of bringing topical sketch ideas and fun games to the table, his time behind the desk has not been smooth. He's suffered ratings losses to the likes of Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.
Jimmy Fallon has suffered numerous controversies
He's also been the subject of intense scrutiny regarding the "toxic workplace" that he's allowed to take root behind the scenes. Fallon addressed the allegations that were leveled at him in a 2023 Rolling Stone expose, and has managed to smooth things over somewhat, but a new post alleges that the host is worried about The Tonight Show's future.
Sources tell Radar Online that Fallon is growing increasingly concerned about the lack of ad dollars that the show is reportedly pulling in:
"Today, the number of advertisers willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars for commercials has definitely shrunk, and even Jimmy admits that."
The Tonight Show schedule was recently cut down
The anonymous source also claims that Fallon's fears have been amplified by the fact that he has one less hour a week to play with. The Tonight Show was recently cut back to four nights a week instead of the traditional five, with NBC resorting to reruns to fill the Friday night slot.
While it's become the standard across all other talk shows, the fact that it has happened to The Tonight Show has some lamenting the beginning of the end for late night. "It’s going to be an uphill battle to grow the audience with an hour less of original content a week," the source concluded.
Despite these concerns, the source assures Radar Online that Kimmel is still a very capable host, with friends throughout the music and television industry. He may he slightly down, but there's little to suggest that he's out.
