Late-night TV hasn't been the same during the past couple of weeks. But all that is about to change as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert prepares to end its hiatus and deliver brand-new episodes on CBS.
Stephen Colbert signed off back on June 25, the last time we got a new episode from the late-night TV leader. The July 4th holiday served as the perfect spot for a hiatus and gave The Late Show team a much-deserved break.
Now, a refreshed and recharged Stephen Colbert is ready to get back to work. There will be a brand-new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight, July 14, to kick off a week of new shows with some exciting celebrity guests.
Expect Colbert's monologue on Monday night to catch up on some of the stories he missed during his break. Of course, it will be heavy on President Donald Trump. The president left Colbert plenty to work with, including his administration's announcement on Jefferey Epstein and Trump's head-scratching moment at the FIFA Club World Cup.
More than any other late-night TV host, Colbert loves to embarrass Trump during his monologues. These two stories, on opposite ends of the spectrum, are unlikely to go without The Late Show having something to say.
Tonight's first guest will be sports commentator Stephen A. Smith. The ESPN personality is known for his NBA coverage, but typically has an opinion on just about everything. Smith has become more vocal about political issues, something he and Colbert are likely to touch on during their conversation.
Actress Liza Colón-Zayas follows as the next guest. She currently stars as Tina Marrero on The Bear, and she has a role in the upcoming Marvel movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
On Tuesday, July 15, actor Joaquin Phoenix makes a rare late-night TV appearance. He'll be on to promote his new film, Eddington. Actress and comedian Megan Stalter will also be there on Tuesday to talk about her Netflix series Too Much.
Wednesday night, actor Owen Wilson will take the Colbert Questionert. Then, former head of the Human Genome Project and National Institutes of Health Francis Collins will talk with Colbert. Look for Colbert to get Collins' opinion on the current administration's health policies.
Things wrap up on Thursday, July 17. Senator Adam Schiff sits down with Colbert first. He'll be followed by actor Anthony Carrigan to talk about his role as Metamorpho in Superman. Noah Cyrus closes things out as the musical guest.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.
