Considering how long fans waited for The Devil Wears Prada 2, it's only right that the movie's promotional tour goes all out. Late-night TV will do its part to help this week as one show welcomes three of the sequel's biggest stars.
Nearly two decades after The Devil Wears Prada became a defining pop culture release, the sequel is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year. With its mix of sharp dialogue, workplace and relationship drama, and eye-popping fashion, the original film left a lasting impression. And it's one that fans have been eager to revisit for years.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will help give fans what they want. The NBC late-night show will serve as the unofficial home for The Devil Wears Prada 2 ahead of its nation-wide release on Friday, May 1.
Kicking things off on Monday, April 27 is Stanley Tucci, who returns as Nigel Kipling, the witty fashion director at Runway magazine. Nigel was a standout in the original film as a mentor to Andy while serving as Miranda's right hand. Fans are especially eager to see how his story continues after his memorable arc. On a personal note, Tucci may discuss what it's like working with Emily Blunt again now that she's his sister-in-law. Tucci married Blunt's sister, Felicity, in 2012.
Speaking of Blunt, she follows on Tuesday, April 28 with an appearance of her own. Blunt’s Emily Charlton, Miranda’s first assistant, became an instant fan favorite thanks to her humor and delivery. The sequel places Emily as head of a luxury brand that could save Runway from going under. Blunt could also take the chance to promote her role in the upcoming Steven Spielberg sci-fi movie Disclosure Day coming out in June.
Then on Wednesday, April 29, Anne Hathaway rounds out the trio. Hathaway reprises her role as Andy Sachs, whose transformation from fashion outsider to polished insider set the stage in the original film. Her return raises some of the biggest questions heading into the sequel, particularly her dynamic with Miranda now.
Fallon could also ask Hathaway about her film Mother Mary that released on April 24. She also recently wrapped on The Odyssey, which reunites her with director Christopher Nolan.
The back-to-back-to-back late-night appearances on The Tonight Show highlight just how much anticipation is building around the sequel. The press tour has already caught fans' attention, and expect that to continue this week as even the actors' fashion gets a closer look.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 hits theaters on May 1. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs on NBC at 11:35 p.m. ET.
