We’re no stranger to digs against President Donald Trump on late night TV, but it’s usually done by the hosts. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert saw a surprise guest who took his own dig.
Prince Harry made a surprise appearance on The Late Show on Wednesday, Dec. 3. While he had some fun in a small sketch with the host, he couldn’t help but make a dig (or two) at Trump’s expense.
Why was Prince Harry on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert?
The Royal made a surprise appearance, where he played a version of himself looking to audition to play “a Christmas prince” in a Hallmark movie. He was sure that out of anyone, Colbert would be able to land him a role, but Colbert pointed out that it would depend on “who you know.”

Does Harry know of any famous actresses that could help to land him a spot in a movie? He joked around that he might know one, as he is married to Suits star Meghan Markle, but he also shared that he was willing to do whatever it took to land a role.
That would include settling “a baseless lawsuit with the White House.” As Harry said that “all the things you people in TV do,” Colbert couldn’t help but strike back saying that he didn’t do anything that Harry was talking about.
“Maybe that’s why you’re canceled,” came the retort, which connects back to Colbert’s contract coming to an end in May 2025. Not only is Colbert’s contract ending, but it looks like The Late Show has a whole will be scrapped, with CBS stating it as a “financial decision,” but there’s plenty of speculation that that is not the truth.
Prince Harry also commented about kings
That wasn’t the only dig aimed at President Trump. While on The Late Show, Harry also commented on the “obsession” that the U.S. has with royalty, with the country going as far as having an electing a king, which led to plenty of pantomime-style boos from the audience.
The joke was in reference to the “No Kings” movement, protesting the authoritarian policies that Trump has introduced since taking over Office.
By the end of the sketch, Harry landed the role that he desperately wanted. Now if only we could see him play a Christmas prince on a Hallmark movie. I’d be so here for that.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on CBS.
