Stephen Colbert: You're not crazy, Trump is

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert sent out a warning on Thursday night, telling its audience that none of what they've seen in the first few days of Trump's presidency is normal. Stephen Colbert urged watchers not to fall into the trap of thinking they're "crazy."

Colbert made it clear following the election that he didn't want to talk about Donald Trump. No amount of monologue material the president provided was worth what Colbert viewed as the dangers associated with a Trump presidency.

The Late Show host hasn't changed his tune in the aftermath of Trump's first 10 in office. But, the comedian also admitted it's "part of the gig" to pay attention to what Trump is doing now that he's back in power.

And upon further review, Colbert has declared that none of it is normal. "His MAGA goons and the spineless apologists want you to believe that this is all normal and that you're crazy," he said. Colbert suggested that was easier to dismiss the first time around because Trump lost the majority vote, and "the majority is always sane."

But now that Trump won both the electoral college and the popular vote? "You might start to suspect that maybe you're crazy," Colbert said. "Nope, it's still him."

To make his point, Colbert pointed to Trump's response to the tragic plane crash involving an Army helicopter and commercial flight in Washington, D.C. An angry, disturbed Colbert claimed Trump used a tragic moment to play politics and blame Democrats.

The Late Show host pushed back on Trump's explanation that "common sense" led the presidnet to believe DEI played a role in the crash. Colbert slammed Trump as having no common sense or common decency.

Colbert ran through more examples of why Trump and his administration are not serious people. The plan to send migrants to Guantanamo Bay and the comments by Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem got under the comedian's skin.

Typically, Colbert can keep a nice balance of humor and commentary in his monologues. But this one felt different as he railed against every decision and policy made by Trump. It's only been 10 days, but things feel much different at The Late Show than they did four years ago. Colbert is sounding the alarms early and often this time around.
