Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel list why RFK Jr. shouldn't run nation's health
By Matt Moore
Another day, another shocking cabinet nomination by Donald Trump. The president-elect's announcement that Robert Kennedy, Jr. will head the Department of Health and Human Services prompted a swift response from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
For those keeping score at home (and if you're not, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel are), President Trump's cabinet is set to include Marco Rubio, Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth, Matt Gaetz, and now Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Colbert called it an exhaustive search to find the most qualified people in Trump's line of sight.
"I know that sounds insane," Colbert said of Kennedy's nomination. "But we should all keep an open mind ... because that's how the worm gets in." The Late Show host also sarcastically said that Kennedy running the nation's health is exactly what the country voted for and will surely lower the price of eggs.
Colbert's monologue then shifted to list all the reasons the comedian thinks Kennedy is unqualified to run the nation's health. Kennedy's stance on vaccines is widely known, but Colbert pointed to several other disqualifying examples.
Those include a conspiracy theory that COVID-19 was "ethnically targeted" to spare Jewish and Chinese people and that chemicals in the water could turn children gay,
Jimmy Kimmel says Donald Trump is running his cabinet like a reality show
Robert Kennedy, Jr. didn't get any better treatment over on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The host joked that Donald Trump was already running his second term like a reality TV show.
And just like Colbert, Kimmel couldn't believe any nominations could get more outrageous than Tulsi Gabbard or Matt Gaetz. But that's where RFK Jr. comes in, despite Trump's transition co-chair claiming Kennedy would not run the Department of Health and Human Services.
"Who better to be in charge of humans than a guy whose brain was partially devoured by a worm?" Kimmel asked. The comedian added that Trump originally wanted a doctor for the role, but the "late, great Hannibal Lector" isn't a real person.
Kimmel closed out his reaction to RFK Jr.'s nomination by reminding everyone of Kennedy's scandal involving a reporter just a few months ago. However, the late-night host says that's more of a qualification in a Trump administration that plans to reward Matt Gaetz.
The only good news for Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel is that their week is over. It won't be until Monday that they have to discuss the latest head-scratching decision from Donald Trump.
