SNL star wants to stay as long as they can (and its not Kenan Thompson)

There isn't much to do during the Saturday Night Live offseason other than speculate about cast departures. But one star is getting ahead of the rumor mill, promising that he wants to stick around SNL as long as possible.

SNL's 50th season seemed like a nice round number for certain cast members to call it quits. Colin Jost, Michael Che, Heidi Gardner, Bowen Yang, and more have all heard their names in rumors about who was done with Saturday Night Live when season 50 wrapped in May.

However, nobody has official departed the show. That includes Mikey Day, who recently gave an interviewing suggesting SNL fans don't have to worry about him anytime soon.

“I want to work there for as long as I can,” Day said in an interview with Variety. “I want to work there until it’s sad.”

Day has been with Saturday Night Live since 2013 when he joined as a writer. A few years later, he joined the cast and has been a fan-favorite and glue guy ever since. No matter what the sketch calls for, Day can deliver.

He's been the straight man just as often as he's been the brains behind sketches like "David S. Pumpkins" and "Washington's Dream." Even if Day isn't your favorite performer, he's likely had a hand in one of your favorite sketches over the years.

So the news that Day doesn't want to leave Saturday Night Live anytime soon is nothing but good news for the show. Day's departure would leave a noticeable gap in the cast and perhaps convince other perfomers to leave the show. It's also hard to see Day's writing partner, Streeter Seidell, sticking around without him.

It's only been about a month since Saturday Night Live ended. But there have only been positive signs about cast changes. Heidi Gardner gave a subtle clue about her return, and now we know Mikey Day is ready to return. SNL season 51 is already in good hands.
