Elon Musk made himself a central figure in the 2024 election through his support for Donald Trump. But as Seth Meyers explained in "A Closer Look," the Tesla CEO has ruffled some feathers within Trump World as they prepare for the transition.
Musk used his social media platform and political action committee to spread support and fundraise for the Trump campaign. He even appeared at multiple rallies and has been a fixture at Mar-a-Lago since the election.
Late Night with Seth Meyers examined how not everyone is thrilled with Musk's continued involvement. Meyers used "A Closer Look" to cover reports of in-fighting and insults aboard the Trump Train.
Meyers set the tone early by calling Musk "co-president" to Trump. The late-night continued, saying that "Trump and his team are already reportedly annoyed at Musk's constant presence and his intrusions into official meetings and policy discussions." He followed that up with a clip of a half-joking Trump claiming he can't get rid of Musk.
Meyers quickly found good news for himself in the report. "You know, my goal these days is to try and stay in a good mood about things," the comedian said. "And nothing's making me feel better than Donald Trump finally got his own Donald Trump."
Seth Meyers looks at more conflict in the Trump transition team
Elon Musk hovering over the Trump transition team isn't the only problem. According to other reports, there have been shouting matches and tirades among those preparing Donald Trump for his second term in office.
"It hasn't even been three weeks since the election, and they're already descending into name-calling and shouting," Meyers said. "That's what the Democrats are supposed to be doing." The Late Night host took it a step further, wondering what it will be like when Team Trump is actually in the White House with real responsibilities.
There's still time before Meyers will find out if his prediction comes true. In the meantime, he may find himself on Elon Musk's radar (just like another late-night TV host).
