We’d recently learned that a Daily Show host would land a guest role on The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. Michael Kosta had joined the show, but it turns out that he’s not the only host on the new comedy. Ronny Chieng was in the series premiere.
The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins got a special premiere on Sunday, Jan. 18 after the intense NFC Divisional Playoff game. If you missed it, you can now catch it on Peacock, and there will be an encore on Monday, Feb. 23 at 8/7c ahead of the release of the second episode at 8:30/7:30c.
Ronny Chieng plays a confident sports agent
Chieng’s character, Barry, appeared via a video call on the series. Barry is after Monica, played by Erika Alexander, attempting to poach her for his own company. This means dropping her ex-husband, Reggie, as a client.
It does seem like Monica is considering it at first, but then she knows that Reggie needs her. As slick and aggressive as Barry is, she doesn’t want to work with him. However, while the appearance in the pilot episode is small, it’s not going to be his only one.
The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins follows Tracy Morgan as the titular character. After being caught in illegal sports betting, Dinkins’s career as a football player is ruined. Now he’s ready to fix his image, and he hires filmmaker Arthur Tobin to help.
Barry will be back on The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins
Chieng will be back on the new NBC comedy series. Back in December, Entertainment Weekly announced that Chieng would be in three episodes of The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. This would suggest that when he doesn’t get his way the first time, he will find another way to convince Monica to come to his side.
Barry is likely a man who doesn’t understand the word no. Considering he’s a powerful sports agent, he’s probably not heard the word all that often, especially when it comes to getting people to join his team. That is sure to lead to some sort of vendetta against Monica or Reggie, especially as Reggie focuses on rebuilding his image.
It’s not yet clear when Chieng will be back on the series. This sort of guest star role could be spaced out throughout the season. It’s likely to pop up when we least expect it, which is usually the case with these types of comedies.
The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins will return on Monday, Feb. 23 on NBC.
