On Monday night, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert returned from a two-week hiatus. And the timing couldn't be better as Stephen Colbert jumped right into the biggest story of the week: Donald Trump's meltdown.

Stephen Colbert's monologue on Monday night started off by celebrating the energy Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have brought to the presidential election. According to the Late Show host, the past two weeks finally let him enjoy the news rather than dread it.

But not everyone is enjoying the positive Harris/Walz vibes. That would include former president Donald Trump, who has dropped in the polls after his opponent changed from Joe Biden to Kamala Harris.

"The fact that Kamala Harris is pulling such huge crowds is really getting under [Trump's] ... let's call it skin," Colbert joked. The host suggested the former president was insane to think Harris' crowds were AI-generated.

Colbert's monologue continued, mocking Trump's meltdown over crowd sizes. "Trump's crowd envy has sent his brain to broil," Colbert said, before ripping Trump for comparing the January 6th crowd to the one that gathered to hear Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.

The comedian concluded the only explanation is that Donald Trump is grieving over the loss of his lead against Joe Biden. But the ex-president has a unique set of stages when it comes to grief. Colbert broke it down for his audience like this:

1. Anger

2. Anger

3. Denial (That You're Angry)

4. Hanger

5. Nugget Bucket

The way things are going in the polls, Trump's stages of grief are likely to expand. Colbert made a point to highlight the excitment and momentum coming from the Democrats. Clearly, the Late Show host thinks the situation is only going to get worse for Donald Trump. If that's the case, Nugget Bucket is only the beginning.
