Stephen Colbert needs a break after the DNC

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert had wall-to-wall coverage of Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, and the entire Democratic National Convention. But now, the late-night TV show is in need of some downtime.

Stephen Colbert and his team set up shop in Chicago, going live on CBS following each night of the DNC. A guest lineup that included Hilary Clinton, Pete Buttigieg, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered some of the show's best content of 2024.

However, don't look for any of that momentum to continue on Monday night. There will not be a new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight.

Instead, CBS will reair the August 15 episode. Interested fans can tune in to revisit appearances by Sean Hayes, Billie Eilish, Hiroyuki Sanada, Koe Wetzel, and Jessie Murph.

Reruns will continue throughout the week. And with Labor Day coming up, it could be a while before we hear a new monologue from Stephen Colbert or see him sit down for a new celebrity interview.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert isn't the only show taking a break

Usually a late-night TV show taking a night (or week) off isn't all bad news. That's because there are so many other options each night.

Unfortunately, that's not the case this week. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert isn't the only show that decided to recover from the DNC and take some extra time off ahead of Labor Day.

NBC plans to air repeat episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with SEth Meyers. Meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel Live! also gets a week off on ABC.

The Daily Show went live following the DNC. And like The Late Show, the Comedy Central program intends to be off the air for the week. In fact, Jon Stewart and company will be off the air for the next two weeks.
