The Vice Presidential debate was all the talk on late night this week. It's the sort of controversial but not too controversial topic that's ripe for the likes of the Tonight Show and the Late Show. The thing is, even the hosts were surprised by how vanilla the debate was.

Stephen Colbert admitted to Late Show viewers that he was let down by the lack of wild statements during the debate. Jimmy Kimmel, meanwhile, conceded that he has a better time watching debates when Donald Trump is involved. Jimmy Fallon felt pretty similarly.

Jimmy Fallon said the debate was jarringly normal

The Tonight Show host told viewers that it was the "craziest" debate thus far because of how civil it turned out to be. "They actually talked about policy," he noted, before quipping:

"This debate turned out to be polite, friendly and intimate. It was jarring. Basically people were expecting a horror movie and they got a Hallmark movie."

While VP candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz may have been more boring than advertised, Fallon did manage to get in a few digs against the former. Vance has become a popular punching bag for late night hosts, and Fallon decided to comment on the politician's appearance.

The comedian likened Vance to M3GAN

He made note of JD Vance's "piercing blue eyes" and claimed that the politician looked familiar... As he pondered where he could have seen Vance before, the Tonight Show screen cuts to an image of M3GAN, the killer doll who headlined the 2023 horror film of the same name. "Oh right, yeah, OK, that’s right, I remember now," the comedian added.

Fallon's decision to mock Vance and the Republican party is pretty fair, given that Presidential nominee Donald Trump recently insulted him and his show at a campaign rally. Trump claimed that The Tonight Show is "dying" under Fallon's control, and publicly called for the days of people like Johnny Carson.
