Saturday Night Live has been dominating the pop culture conversation in recent weeks as the show leads up to its 50th-anniversary celebration. So what should SNL fans expect to see on NBC tonight?

Saturday Night Live season 50 last aired a new episode on January 25. Academy Award nominee Timothee Chalamet returned to host. And if that wasn't enough, the A Complete Unknown star also served as the musical guest.

The season went on hiatus, but there was still plenty of SNL content to consume. That won't change tonight, although there will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live.

Instead, NBC will reair the very first episode of SNL. Tune in at 11:30 p.m. ET to see the original episode as it aired on October 11, 1975.

Comedian George Carlin hosted and delivered multiple monologues during the show. However, he did not appear in a single sketch during the show. According to legend, the stand-up comedian was too high to perform in any sketches. The entire ordeal was dramatized in the 2024 film Saturday Night.

Billy Preston and Janis Ian served as the musical guests. Preston performed "Nothing from Nothing" and "Fancy Lady." Ian performed "At Seventeen" and "In the Winter."

It's a fitting way for Saturday Night Live to prepare audiences for what's coming on Sunday night. That's when NBC will air the live three-hour primetime special celebrating 50 years of Saturday Night Live.

An all-star team of writers is working on the show. Some of Hollywood's biggest names will be there, including Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, and Adam Driver. Of course, Saturday Night Live royalty will also be in the building, such as Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, and Chevy Chase.
