Saturday Night might have finally arrived, but NBC will not be going live from Studio 8H. This is because Saturday Night Live remains off NBC’s schedule for yet another week.
That’s right, there is once again no new episode of Saturday Night Live airing, nor is there a rerun for fans to enjoy in place of a new episode. NBC’s long-running late-night comedy series remains off the air for a third straight week due to the network’s ongoing Milan Cortina Winter Olympics coverage.
While certain NBC shows aired new episodes the first week of February before the start of the Winter Olympics, Saturday Night Live has been off the air since its Alexander Skarsgard-hosted January 31 episode. This trend continues on February 21 as NBC brings viewers continued coverage of the Milan Cortina games. Rather than airing a rerun of Saturday Night Live, NBC will be airing coverage of the men’s ski cross final in freestyle skiing, the women’s mass start final in speed skating, and more from the ongoing Winter Olympics in the 11:30 p.m. ET slot typically occupied by Saturday Night Live.
The bad news is that there is no episode of Saturday Night Live airing on February 21, but the good news is that season 51 will resume next week! With the Winter Olympics coming to an end, NBC will finally bring back its usual primetime series in the closing week of the month. This includes a new episode of Saturday Night Live airing on February 28 – and NBC has lined up an amazing host for Saturday Night Live’s first episode back after the Winter Olympics break!
Following its three-week break, Saturday Night Live will welcome Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie to Studio 8H to make his hosting debut. He’ll be joined by musical guest Mumford & Sons, who will be making their fourth appearance on the show.
NBC could not have tapped a better host for the show’s first episode back as Storrie’s hosting stint is sure to draw strong viewership. Fans are eager to see Storrie show off his comedy skills as host of Saturday Night Live’s February 28 episode, and we’re in store for an amazing week as the promotional train begins to leave the station!
Storrie’s Saturday Night Live hosting debut will mark the start of a sprint of new episodes as we enter March. Ryan Gosling has already been tapped to host the March 7 episode alongside musical guest Gorillaz, and NBC has already confirmed there will be a new episode airing on March 14 as well with a host and musical guest still to be announced.
Needless to say, after weeks without any Saturday Night Live episodes airing due to the Olympics, NBC is ready to make up for the lost time with a series of can’t-miss episodes. We just have to get through this final week in the break before we begin what is sure to be an unforgettable batch of new episodes that fans won’t want to miss!
