When it comes to the middle of November, we know that a lot of our favorite TV shows are going to go off the air. That includes some of the late night shows, including Saturday Night Live.
That time has come for SNL, although it’s a temporary break for now. The rest of November is going to be void of new episodes of the comedy series. On Saturdays, at least!
Saturday Night Live always takes November off
This isn’t unusual. We have seen SNL take the end of November off a lot, and it’s all due to Thanksgiving. However, the show doesn’t go away completely, and it won’t in 2025.
The Thanksgiving special is still to come, with the date set for Wednesday, Nov. 26. This is on at an earlier time, which means there are a few limitations on some of the verbiage used, but the focus is on Thanksgiving-themed skits to enjoy the holiday season.
That’s the only episode left in November 2025, though. After that, we need to wait until December.

SNL will be back in December
The good news is we already know who will take to the stage during the first episode in December. Moving back to the Saturday night spot on Dec. 6, Melissa McCarthy and Dijon will be the host and musical guest for the episode.
There are set to be three episodes in December, before the show goes on its winter hiatus. This, again, is normal, even if it is disappointing. In some good news, we’ll have a Christmas special of the series to see the year out.

Why does Saturday Night Live take so many breaks?
There is always the question about why there isn’t a new episode of SNL now and then? After all, it’s not like November and December are the only months with blackouts.
It all comes down to making sure everyone involved is refreshed. There needs to be something fun and entertaining to offer, and if the jokes aren’t there, then the show can’t go on. It’s also important to get the right guests for hosting and musical duties to give the series the variety that it needs.
As for November and December, this is to ensure the cast and crew get some time off with their families. This is why the series goes off the air until January, but it will be back in 2026 after the Christmas special.
