A new development has emerged in the case of Saturday Night Live writer Jimmy Fowlie’s missing sister. A statement from law enforcement is adding a layer of uncertainty to an already tragic situation.

Yesterday, the comedian and actor shared a heartbreaking Instagram post stating that his sister, Christina Lynn Downer, was “no longer alive.” Fowlie stated that her case had been reclassified as a homicide, four months after the 38-year-old was reported missing in December 2025.

In a statement provided to KTLA, Los Angeles Police Department officials said that it continues to investigate the disappearance of Downer. The LAPD reiterated that the disappearance was suspicious, but clarified that Fowlie's sister has still yet to be located. Furthermore, the law enforcement agency clarified that "her case has not been reclassified as a homicide.

The statement appears to contradict Fowlie’s Instagram post from the day before, in which he told followers that authorities had informed his family his sister was deceased and that the investigation had shifted accordingly. It could all be a miscommunication during what is likely a highly stressful and emotional period for everyone involved.

In that original post, Fowlie also indicated that he would be stepping away from social media to process the devastating update and to prioritize his mental health. As of now, he has not shared any public response to the LAPD’s latest statement. He did make a public appearance at a premiere event for the new Netflix comedy Roommates, which Fowlie co-wrote with fellow SNL writer Ceara O'Sullivan.

Fowlie had previously written that his family’s hopes of finding Downer alive had turned into a search for answers and accountability, while also alleging that individuals may have used her phone after her disappearance to mislead others and solicit money.

Meanwhile, support for Fowlie has continued to pour in from his colleagues at Saturday Night Live and beyond. Several SNL personalities and comedians engaged with the update, either by liking the post or leaving messages of support.

Current cast members Marcello Hernandez, Tommy Brennan, and Veronika Slowikowska expressed their support. Former Saturday Night Live stars Cecily Strong and Ego Nwodim also reached out to Fowlie via social media.

In the months since Downer’s disappearance from her Koreatown neighborhood was first made public, members of the SNL family have repeatedly used their platforms to amplify the case and encourage anyone with information to come forward. For now, Downer’s disappearance remains an active missing persons case, according to law enforcement, even as questions continue to swirl around the circumstances described by her family.

Anyone with information related to Christina Downer’s disappearance is urged to contact the LAPD.
