Jon Stewart rips Trump’s focus amid war: ‘Grandpa who’s lost his filter in public’

Jon Stewart is not impressed with how Donald Trump is handling the United States’ ongoing war with Iran. The Daily Show host did not hold back or try to hide his frustration during Monday night's episode, ripping into the president for his lack of focus while expecting so much from the rest of the country.

Stewart delivered a blistering monologue criticizing the president’s tone and priorities amid the escalating conflict in Iran. Rather than projecting steady leadership, Stewart argued that Trump has come across as unserious and self-absorbed.

“You know, honestly, his leering behavior is less ‘Commander-in-Chief at war,’ and more ‘grandpa who’s lost his filter in public,’” Stewart joked. “Instead of assuaging a nervous nation, he’s just embarrassing the whole family at dinner.”

The late-night TV host widened his critique to include the administration’s broader messaging, accusing Trump of demanding sacrifice from Americans while refusing to change his own behavior. Stewart questioned what President Trump and his administration are doing differently while asking so much of the American public.

"All we keep hearing from this administration is why the American people have to sacrifice for Trump’s vision of America’s greatness,” Stewart said. “That these temporary disruptions are just part of the process, and why can’t we be patriots?" The comedian pointed to higher gas prices, inflation caused by Trump's tariffs, and the chaos caused by ICE raids. Stewart wondered why "Trump gets to be his same old, ‘Ain’t I a stinker,’" self amid it all. Even moreso, the host complained that the president's administration and cabinet members seem content to play along rather than try to redirect Trump's attention.

Stewart also took aim at Trump’s weekend schedule, highlighting appearances that he suggested were out of step with the gravity of the moment. A visibly frustrated Stewart ripped into the president for continuing to play golf or attending investment meetings in Miami.

Then, of course, there is the ballroom. President Trump has taken any opportunity to talk up his addition to the White House, regardless of the topic he's actually meant to discuss. Stewart called him out on this, saying the president will pull an all-nighter working on the ballroom design but refuses to answer a single question about the war with Iran.

The Daily Show comedian capped off the monologue segment with an unforgiving assessment of Trump’s temperament, questioning whether the president fully grasps the stakes of the situation.

“I found it so astounding that this nuclear-armed man baby doesn’t seem to have an understanding of the confusion and anxiety that his ill-planned adventure in Iran is causing this country,” Stewart said, earning applause and approval from the studio audience on Monday night.
