There are plenty of routine questions for The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart, and the one he’s recently responded to is whether he would run for President. It’s apparently a surprisingly common question, and not just for him, but could it be possible.?
Now legally, yes. He’s an American-born citizen and he fits all the other criteria that would allow him to run. He’d need a party to back him, unless he went independent, but that’s not the real question. It’s whether Stewart would want to run for President, as this isn’t a dream that everyone has.
Jon Stewart didn’t technically say no to a Presidential run
When answering the question about whether he’d run for President, it’s interesting that Jon Stewart didn’t exactly say no. In fact, he didn’t quite answer the question. Instead, he focused on why people are asking him, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Kimmel to put a bid in for the top job in the country.
So, does this mean he’s thinking about it? Probably not. He did note at one point that he felt like people were “cursing” him with “The Twilight Zone” to make a Presidential run happen, so that would suggest that he’s not interested in it. But, like so many politicians, he didn’t quite answer the question.
It was a different answer to the one Colbert recently gave, which was that he would have to speak to his “faith leader and [his] family” about his calling after The Late Show ends.
Jon Stewart offers a message of hope on The Daily Show
The question came while during an After the Cut segment of The Daily Show, which is when the hosts take questions from the audience. While giving his not-quite-an-answer, he went on to share how he could understand why people were asking for this. They see someone like him speaking on TV in a way that resonates with them, and they want that person to go speak for them on a grander stage.
This does come more in moments of helplessness, when people think that the country is failing. However, he pointed out that wile people fear President Donald Trump is Hitler, that’s not the case. He notes that Hitler was popular, which Trump isn’t, and it’s a huge difference. Stewart can see it when he sees people that the popularity isn’t quite there, and it offers a little hope for those who feel helpless.
Another hope is in the people. He can see the people joining together, and that’s a beautiful thing to help with any current situation.
The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11/10c on comedy Central.
