As if he needed any more convincing, Jon Stewart says there's more proof that President Donald Trump doesn't really care about the American people. The Daily Show host ripped into Trump's Great Gatsby-themed party as the government remains shut down.
Stewart's monologues on Trump often fall into two categories: silly and satirical or fiery and enraged. Monday night's episode fell into the latter as Stewart attacked Trump's apparent apathy on the eve of SNAP benefits expiring for millions of Americans.
"[Trump] wasn’t working for the American people. That was just some Hollywood Babylon s*** that once and for all shows that Donald Trump doesn’t give a f*** about even looking like he gives a f***. At all.”
There's no denying that Trump throwing a party all about the wealthy and class divide didn't provide the best optics. Plenty of Americans are upset about the government shutdown and what it means for their day-to-day lives And for Stewart, none of it really makes a difference to President Trump. “On the very night SNAP benefits ended, Trump threw a Gatsby-themed ode to decadence and hedonism that even Jeffrey Epstein would have thought was a little over the top," Stewart said.
For weeks, Stewart has been ringing the alarm about what the government shutdown will mean for millions of Americans. Maybe part of the Daily Show host believed President Trump would step in and save the day. But such a move would be out of character for the Donald Trump witnessed by Jon Stewart:
“This president seems to go out of his way to let struggling Americans know that he is doing very well. Your premiums may be going up, tariffs may be shutting down your small businesses, you may be losing your food assistance, but it’ll all be OK because Donald Trump is building a ballroom that looks like the inside of Marie Antoinette’s vagina.”
The monologue went back to Stewart's past prediction that President Trump isn't looking to move on from the White House in 2028. Life is too good for Trump right now, according to Stewart, so there isn't much incentive to give up power. And his Gatsby-themed party's theme of “a little party never killed nobody” also suggests Trump isn't getting off the ride any time soon.
Maybe that's why Stewart is sticking around himself, signing a new deal to stay at The Daily Show. As long as President Trump is going to flaunt his wealth, Stewart will be there to respond.
