There's a positive and unsurprising update about The Daily Show host

The Problem with Jon Stewart
The Problem with Jon Stewart

While some contracts for late-night shows are coming to an end, there’s good news about The Daily Show. Now we’re looking all the more forward to 2026.

The world of late-night TV has certainly changed, and there are still changes coming. With contracts coming to an end, there is always the worry that another late-night host will disappear. After all, who would have thought that Stephen Colbert’s show would end when it was No. 1 for late-night TV?

Jon Stewart will continue hosting The Daily Show

When Stewart’s contract came to an end in 2024, he shared that he would be back for another year. Well, we’re getting close to his contract expiring once more, but just recently, Stewart shared that he was working on renewing his contract to stick around.

Those negotiations have come to an end in a positive way. The Daily Show will keeps is sometimes-host (and all-the-times-EP, as The Hollywood Reporter put it), for another year, until at least the end of 2026.

However, while it’s not surprising that Stewart managed the negotiations considering he made it clear he was interested, it was worrying when CBS has just recently made the decision not to renew Colbert’s contract.

Comedy Central is part of the Paramount network of channels, which made the show’s future all the more nerve-wracking. Paramount is currently trying to curry favor with the government, which is believed to be the main reason for letting Colbert go after his contract. Considering similar political views and nature of The Daily Show, many feared the same would happen.

There will still be guest hosts on The Daily Show

Based on the report from the publication, Stewart’s contract remains to be one that has him on The Daily Show now and then. It isn’t an every-night gig for him, with him currently hosting on Monday nights on Comedy Central.

Correspondents on the show, such as Michael Kosta and Jordan Klepper, have continued to keep the series going the other nights of the week since Trevor Noah stepped down in 2023.

As of now, Stewart will host until December 2026. Only time will tell if he’ll decide to negotiate an extension on that contract then, and it’s likely to depend on the political landscape at the time. After all, one of the reasons Stewart is said to want to stay is because there is still work to do when it comes to the coverage of Donald Trump’s second term.

At least now there’s a year until we have to worry again!
