Jimmy Kimmel Live! is over (for now)

It was another long, unpredictable, and hilarious year for Jimmy Kimmel Live!. But for now, the ABC late-night TV show is turning off the lights.

Jimmy Kimmel has become arguably the biggest name in late-night thanks to his gigs outside of the show (like hosting the Oscars) and, of course, what he does every night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. In fact, Kimmel is the story more often than other late-night hosts.

So it's not surprising to hear that Kimmel and his staff are ready for a vacation. Jimmy Kimmel Live! will go on hiatus through the remainder of 2024. Kimmel shared the news during his monologue on Thursday, December 13 while previewing the office holiday party.

Starting on December 16, ABC will air reruns of Jimmy Kimmel Live! during the show's normal timeslot. The first episode will be a repeat of the December 12 show featuring Josh Brolin, Clarence Maclin, and RAYE.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! is expected to return with a brand-new episode on Thursday, January 2, 2025. A guest lineup has yet to be announced.

Kimmel probably isn't in a rush to get back. Fans already know that the late-night host takes the summer off. So it's no shock to hear that he's taking some time off to recharge before the new year.

And he'll need all the energy he can muster for what's ahead. When Kimmel does return, he'll be facing a busy January that will feature the election certification and Donald Trump's inauguration. And with the rest of Hollywood back from the holidays, Kimmel will surely have more A-list guests to chat with, too.
