Jimmy Kimmel is struggling to comprehend just what Elon Musk is doing with the federal government. The late-night TV host claims things are worse than anyone could have imagined following Musk's email ultimatum.
According to Musk, all federal employees would be asked to justify their position and share five things they accomplished at their job. The email sent a wave of confusion through federal agencies, with some instructing employees to ignore it.
Kimmel pointed out that President Donald Trump intially loved the idea and called it "genius." On top of that, Trump claimed anyone who did not respond would be fired or "semi-fired." Kimmel imagined how that catchphrase would have gone over on The Apprentice.
The comedian had a hard time following Trump's position after playing a clip of the president saying a response to the email was "somewhat voluntary" but failure to respond would result in termination. Kimmel could really only laugh and shake his head in response.
"I think it may be time to give the planet to the apes because we're finished," Kimmel said. "These federal workers are as confused as Elon's kids when they realized he named them after a phone number."
Kimmel went on to argue the craziest part of the entire story is that Musk is not a government official. He has no authority to fire anyone. "Who knew you could fire people at a place you don't even work?" Kimmel joked.
Kimmel takes on Marjorie Taylor Greene
As if Elon Musk's involvement wasn't enough, another favorite target of Jimmy Kimmel Live! chimed in. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene also caught Jimmy Kimmel's attention with her comments.
Greene called out positions in the federal government as "not real jobs" because they don't produce federal reveune. She continued, arguing that federal employees do not "deserve" their jobs or their paychecks.
"Aren't you a federal employee?" Kimmel asked. Once again, the late-night TV host was left more confused than when he started as he tried to make sense of it all.
There doesn't seem to be any slowing down Elon Musk or his DOGE efforts. So if Kimmel thinks things are bad now, he could be in for another surprise.
