The Golden Globe nominations were released earlier this month. In what should be one of the most competitive categories, two Saturday Night Live alumni will face off hoping to add to their trophy cases.
The Golden Globes don't have a category for late-night TV, meaning Satruday Night Live itself isn't up for any awards. Nor do we have our eye on any competition among late-night hosts such as Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, or Jimmy Kimmel.
However, late-night host Seth Meyers is up for an award in the category of Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. To win, he'll have to defeat fellow Saturday Night Live alum Adam Sandler.
Meyers is nominated for his special Dad Man Walking. It's the first HBO special for Meyers, who focuses his act on life as a father and husband. It's a nice change of pace from Late Night where he typically takes a closer look at all things politics.
A limited number of reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are all positive for Dad Man Walking. And over on IMDb, the special holds a 6.9/10 rating.
Sandler picked up a nomination for Adam Sandler: Love You. It's another production from the comedian's partnership with Netflix. It's a classic Sandler set with a mix of songs and punchlines throughout the night.
Fans give Love You a 6.7/10 rating on IMDb. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes were positive, resulting in a 92% score for the Sandman.
Who else is nominated?
The two Saturday Night Live stars face some strong competition in the category. It won't be easy for either of them to take home a Golden Globe.
Jamie Foxx scored a nomination for his return to stand-up. His Netflix special What Had Happened Was... details his recent health crisis.
Nikki Glaser's monster year continues. She picked up a Golden Globe nomination for her Netflix special Someday You'll Die.
Ali Wong: Single Lady also gets a nod. It's another hit for Netflix, who already has a strong relationship with Ali Wong thanks to her previous stand-up specials and Beef.
Ramy Youssef rounds out the list of nominees. The one-time Saturday Night Live host released More Feelings on HBO earlier this year.
Nikki Glaser hosts the 82nd Golden Globes, scheduled for January 5, 2025, on CBS.
