Seth Meyers has been hosting Late Night with Seth Meyers since 2014. He's held down the desk during one of the tumultuous periods in the history of American politics, and as such, he has been forced to addresses the topic on a nightly basis.

Meyers has discussed Donald Trump at length during his renowned A Closer Look segments, but the comedian has made it clear that he will never allow Trump to come on to the show as a guest. He said as much during a 2016 episode of Late Night.

Meyers stood in solidarity with the press

Meyers was appalled by Trump's decision to ban the Washington Post from attending his events over a headline he disliked. Meyers felt the decision was unconscionable, and opted to stand in solidarity with the Post by banning the president from his show:

"So as long as the The Washington Post is banned from Donald Trump’s campaign, Donald Trump will be banned from ever coming on this show."

Meyers' decision was no joking matter, but he did crack a few jokes at the President's expensive after the fact. He told Trump that he "missed out," as they could have driven around and harassed people during a segment of "Carpool Scary-oke." The crack was obviously meant to poke fun at the Carpool Karaoke segment James Corden had made popular at the time.

Trump has never appeared on Meyers' show

Seth Meyers did concede that Late Night does not have the same outsized cultural stature as, say, The Tonight Show, which Trump went on in 2015. He did, however, state that the integrity of his show were vastly more important to him than a notable guest.

"To be fair, he wasn’t coming on anyway," Meyers quipped. "Let’s be honest: He had no interest in being here." The Late Night host has kept to his word, as Trump has never appeared on the current iteration of the show.
