Saturday Night Live is used to hearing its name called when award season rolls around every year. But the 2026 Emmy nominations snubbed the sketch show in its 51st season, leaving cast members and all hosts except for one without an honor.
For years, the Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series categories featured at least on Saturday Night Live cast member. But this year's nominations did not include a single member of the SNL cast.
That's pretty surprising considering the breakout year by featured player Ashley Padilla. Most Saturday Night Live fans would agree that Padilla was the season's MVP. She even became one of the face's of the show thanks to a string of media appearances and interviews that seemed to suggest she was on her way to an Emmy nomination.
Bowen Yang also seemed like a candidate to have his name called. While he didn't finish out season 51, he still made enough of an impact in his final Saturday Night Live season to earn at least another nomination.
For the categories of guest actor and guest actress in a comedy, Saturday Night Live submitted 11 hosts for consideration. It was a much different strategy than last year when SNL put down all 20 hosts for the category.
Bad Bunny, Ryan Gosling, Harry Styles, Jack Black, Colman Domingo, Will Ferrell and Connor Storrie were submitted for actors. Amy Poehler, Olivia Rodrigo, Melissa McCarthy and Ariana Grande got put up for actresses.
Of that group, only Storrie received a nomination for hosting during season 51. The Heated Rivalry star made a splash when he hosted back in February, bringing fans of his hit HBO drama to the Saturday Night Live audience.
There's also the possibility that Storrie picked up the nomination to also acknowledge his performance on Heated Rivalry. As a completely Canadian production, the hockey-inspired romance isn't eligble for a Primetime Emmy.
The path for Storrie won't be easy. He'll face stiff competition that includes Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein for Shrinking, Hamish Linklater for Widow's Bay, Christopher McDonald for Hacks, and the late Rob Reiner for The Bear.
Given the overall lack of nominations for Saturday Night Live, it may be difficult for Storrie to stand out in his category. The voters seem to be down on SNL's 51st season, which may cost the actor his first Emmy win.
But whether he wins or not, Storrie made a strong impression at Studio 8H. Awards are nice, but the Heated Rivalry star proved his talents go beyond anything a trophy can measure. Expect to see him back on Saturday Night Live someday (and maybe with an Emmy win on his resume by then).
