One of the great things about late night TV right now is the support that multiple other late night hosts are giving each other. In fact, they’re even appearing on each other’s shows, and that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday, Dec. 9 on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
David Letterman stepped onto the show to discuss the latest season of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. It was during this segment that Kimmel got an offer that he just couldn’t refuse, and now we hope to see it happen.

Jimmy Kimmel would love to be on My Next Guest
My Next Guest season 6 arrives on Netflix on Tuesday, Dec. 16, so it wasn’t that much of a surprise to see Letterman chat to Kimmel about it. This is when Kimmel got the offer of a lifetime. Letterman wants him to appear on his own show.
There was no break in Kimmel accepting that honor. Of course, this doesn’t mean that it will happen, as Letterman shared that it was Netflix that has allegedly stopped Kimmel appearing so far. However, Letterman wants it to happen, and Kimmel has accepted, so now we just need Netflix to agree to it.
The great news is My Next Guest Needs No Introduction season 7 has already been confirmed. This should arrive in 2026, so there’s time for the schedules to align.
David Letterman was full of praise for Kimmel
What’s funny is that while Kimmel shared how much he looked up to Letterman, the feeling is mutual. Letterman shared during the chat that he views Kimmel as the Leader of the Resistance. While Kimmel joked that he’s an “ineffective leader,” Letterman went on to share that he looks up to Kimmel, because he’s learned so much from the man.
“I’m going to suck up to you because I feel like if I kind of tag along with you I’ll be glorified in retrospect. … Now this is irrespective of party or political ideology. Irrespective of party or political ideology, if the leader of the free world is a fool, the leader of the free world should expect and examine every bit of ridicule he receives.”
The interview came off the back of the news that Kimmel has negotiated an extra year on his contract with Disney, showing that despite all the backlash and the suspensions, he remains a must-have at the network. Letterman shared that he will “suck up” to Kimmel in the hope that he’ll be “glorified in retrospect” because of the work that Kimmel is doing in late night TV.
It’s not just Kimmel who Letterman is proud of. He also mentioned Stephen Colbert, who took over hosting duties from Letterman 10 years ago when he left The Late Show, and Seth Meyers. Kimmel and Meyers are usually the targets for Donald Trump, but Colbert has become one now and then as well. Letterman views the three as the ones standing up for democracy, and in a way, they are, as they fight to protect the First Amendment Rights. However, Letterman did also say that he’s glad to be out of the mess.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
