Since Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen premiered in the year 2009, it has been one of the most interesting talk shows for fans who love to see celebrities with their guards down. Considering that the show has a long history of guests making admissions that they usually never would, it makes sense that Cohen believes it is underrated. While it can be fun to see him get his guests to be brutally forthright, it is important to note that Cohen can often be very blunt himself.

Over the years, Cohen has been willing to do things like call out a model as his worst guest ever or express his opinion about how Stephen Colbert's show could have been saved. On top of being extremely forthright about other celebrities, he also has a long history of being brutally self-critical. One notable recent example of that came when Cohen called himself an "idiot" while discussing the biggest "blooper" of his career.

Andy Cohen called himself an "idiot" for an infamous question he asked Oprah Winfrey

On October 20 2025, Today's YouTube channel uploaded a clip of Andy Cohen's appearance on the popular morning show. In the clip, Cohen was shown taking questions from fans who were in attendance in Today Plaza with several of the show's hosts, Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, and Carson Daly. After the foursome answered those questions, Cohen stated that as a fan of the morning show, he had a question that he wanted the show's hosts to answer.

While speaking to Today's hosts, Cohen asked them to name the "on-air blooper" from their careers that they will "never repeat." After the hosts gave their answers, including Guthrie bringing up an incredibly awkward question she asked Kourtney Kardashian, Cohen was asked to answer that question himself. In response, Cohen instantly began describing an infamous question he once asked Oprah Winfrey while calling himself an "idiot."

"Oh my gosh. You know I lean into a blooper. You know what, I was doing a great interview with Oprah, and the show was about to end and I, idiot that I am, turned to her and asked, 'Have you ever swam in the lady pond?' And, she was like, 'Uh...'; She goes, 'No.' And then Gayle [King] said that she didn't get the question."

According to IMDb, Oprah has only made one appearance on Watch What Happen Live with Andy Cohen, and that episode aired in August 2013. The fact that Cohen brought up how that interview ended more than 12 years after the episode aired shows how impactful that awkward moment was for him.
