Late Night with Seth Meyers used “A Closer Look” to unpack Donald Trump’s latest controversial comments. The former president claimed if he wins the 2024 election, he’ll be a dictator just on day one.

Seth Meyers has been sounding the alarm about a potential second Trump term for a while now. The Late Night host swings between amused and concerned when covering Trump’s 2024 bid. But the latest comments from Trump raised Meyers’ alert level.

According to Meyers, Trump’s plan to “install himself as a dictator” is the only thing the ex-president has been clear about. “A Closer Look” referred to Trump as concise and laser-focused when it comes to that plan.

Meyers pointed to Trump’s interview with Sean Hannity as proof. In particular, “A Closer Look” highlighted Trump’s praise of Al Capone. The former president referred to the infamous mobster as one of the “greatest of all time, if you like criminals.”

Trump doubled down when given the opportunity to discredit the notion that he would abuse his power in office. He told Hannity that he would only be a dictator on day one.

“Oh, well, if it’s just for one day, by all means,” Meyers responded. “What could possibly go wrong? That’s like Jason saying he’ll only go on a murderous rampage the first day of summer camp, and then on day two, canoeing,” he added, invoking Friday the 13th.

Of course, Meyers doesn’t believe Trump. “A Closer Look” wrapped up with the host warning that Trump would never give up the kind of power he said he’ll use “just on day one.” Instead, Meyers believes it’s much more likely that Donald Trump joins the ranks of the “greatest criminals of all time.”
