SNL alum Aidy Bryant tapped to host upcoming award show
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live alum Aidy Bryant is heading back to the spotlight. The former SNL cast member will host the 2024 Independent Spirit Awards.
The Independent Spirit Awards honors achievements by independent filmmakers. It typically takes place the day before the annual Academy Awards. Once again, this year’s ceremony will stream live on YouTube.
For Bryant, it’s another chance to showcase the talents that made her a standout at Saturday Night Live for 10 seasons. The comedian joined the show in 2012, becoming a fan-favorite for her versatility and magnetism in every sketch. Bryant departed SNL at the end of season 47 in 2022.
Bryant has some big shoes to fill as host of the 2023 Independent Spirt Awards. The lineup of past hosts includes fellow Saturday Night Live alum such as John Mulaney, Melissa Villasenor, Kate McKinnon, Fred Armisen, and Andy Samberg.
What has Aidy Bryant done since leaving Saturday Night Live?
Unsurprisingly, Aidy Bryant has been busy since her Saturday Night Live run ended. Her comedy series Shrill wrapped up after three seasons, coinciding with her final days at SNL.
Bryant has an overall development deal with Universal Television. She’s developing Lonely Heart’s Club, a comedy-drama series based on an episode of Ashley Flowers’ Crime Junkie podcast. It centers around a lonely woman falling for a con man.
Bryant is co-writing the series with former Saturday Night Live head writer Rob Klein. The duo previously collaborated on Shrill.
With Kate McKinnon recently announced as a December 2023 host for Saturday Night Live season 49, it feels like only a matter of time before Bryant gets her invitation. The premiere of Lonely Heart’s Club would be fitting.
The Independent Spirit Awards hosted by Aidy Bryant will be broadcast on February 25.
