Who’s hosting Saturday Night Live tonight, October 28?
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live is back tonight with another brand-new episode. And for the third consecutive week, a first-time host takes the SNL stage.
Saturday Night Live season 49 began by giving former cast member Pete Davidson a shot at hosting. The following week, rap superstar Bad Bunny pulled double duty while making his hosting debut.
Tonight, another comedian gets his shot as host. Stand-up comic Nate Bargatze will host Saturday Night Live tonight.
He’ll be joined by Foo Fighters as the musical guest. The rock icons are making their ninth appearance as an SNL musical guest.
What to expect from Nate Bargatze as host of Saturday Night Live tonight
Nate Bargatze doesn’t carry the same name recognition as other comedians who have recently hosted Saturday Night Live, such as John Mulaney, Amy Schumer, or Bill Burr. Bargatze would be among the first to admit that, too. He joked on Late Night with Seth Meyers that he wasn’t famous enough to host SNL.
But Bargatze has a two-decade-long career in comedy, amassing an impressive fanbase and becoming a well-respected talent in the stand-up world. His 2023 special, Nate Bargatze: Hello World, carries a 98% approval rating among fans on Rotten Tomatoes.
Unlike some other comedians, Bargatze doesn’t have any real acting experience. He played himself in an episode of Maron but hasn’t exactly been asked to be an original character. But if SNL can make athletes and politicians into actors, it should have no problem giving someone as funny as Bargatze the right material to perform.
It’s also the Saturday Night Live Halloween episode. That means the writers will be on the top of their game, per usual when it comes to holiday episodes. SNL also calls in cameos around this time of year, so Bargatze could have some help tonight.
Finally, don’t be surprised if Dave Grohl gets in on the action. He’s appeared in a handful of sketches over the years while Foo Fighters were musical guest.
Saturday Night Live with host Nate Bargatze airs tonight, October 28, at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC. It also streams live on Peacock.
