After it was reported earlier this year that CNN are looking into the possibility of launching a late-night show, the news network must consider one of YouTube’s finest political commentators.

Sam Seder, host of The Majority Report, has asserted himself as a unique political voice across social media. The comedic commentator boasts an incredible online following with over 1 million subscribers on YouTube.

In the last 30 days, Social Blade reports that The Majority Report has reached over 15 million people.

Seder has hosted his daily political commentary show since 2004, tackling the political issues of the day and often unafraid to let his dry wit seep through into his analysis.

It was only a few years ago when NBC News saw a star in Seder, gifting him a contributor role on the network. Since then, the comedian has opted to dedicate his time almost exclusively to his independent broadcast.

Seder is often hailed by regular viewers for instigating a political awakening on social media channels such as YouTube, which increasingly appear captive to dangerous right-wing rhetoric.

CNN must look further than Bill Maher

CNN won’t survive its leap into late night by simply cutting a deal with HBO to air Bill Maher’s Overtime. The news network must hold itself responsible for bringing a fresh, progressive face to satellite television. Maher’s short panel segment is already proving unpopular, facing ratings in just a matter of months on the air.

The news network has struggled over the years to find a balance between its hard news analysis and truly entertaining political commentary. As brilliant as Wolf Blitzer may be, we’d love someone to report with a convincing smile.

Back in 2020, when Seder filled in for Chris Hayes on MSNBC, the reviews were striking. One user commented in response to Sam’s monologue that night: “I can’t think of a better fill-in person for Chris Hayes. Sam Seder carries the same progressive spirit of “All In”. Great choice, MSNBC!” Seder would carry along a sizeable amount o viewers of all age categories.

Whilst Seder maintained a close relationship with MSNBC in past years, the comedian must find a home where he’s able to transmit his comedic analysis. And, if CNN really does want to contemplate the possibility of creating a Greg Gutfeld rival, Seder should be top of the list.
