On Thursday evening, news broke that a grand jury voted to indict former President Donald Trump on charges related to hush money payments. It sounds like the kind of consequences Stephen Colbert has been begging to see over the past few years.

The good news is that there is a brand new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight. The bad news is that the Trump story may have broken too late for Colbert to cover it on tonight’s episode.

The New York-based Late Show typically films around 5:30, which is the same time that news outlets broke the Trump indictment story. Therefore, it’s unlikely Colbert and his team had time to throw out the monologue and restart from scratch.
