One Direction fans may be in for quite the treat if a current rumour regarding the boyband is confirmed. According to the celebrity gossip account, Deuxmoi, The Late Late Show with James Corden is hoping to reunite the world-famous boyband after they split up in 2016.
With Corden expected to leave his role on his late-night show this year, the British comedian appears to be hard at work making his last few months on air count.
James has been a long-time fan of the boyband and has famously kept a close relationship with Harry Styles (now famously touring the world as a successful solo artist).
According to the gossip outlet, One Direction’s possible reunion would be the perfect “send off” for Corden “into his next adventure”.
“The host is beyond thrilled to have them,” the post added.
7 years on, Could Corden reunite One Direction? It’s possible.
When Corden was first learning the ropes of hosting his own late-night show, the host invited One Direction to partake in a Carpool Karaoke segment back in 2015 (see above). Since, the boyband’s appearance on the show has now reached over 194 million views on YouTube, making their Karaoke segment one of the most popular in the show’s history.
Without a doubt, if Corden has managed to bring 1D back together, even for a one-off performance on the show, it would surely break the internet.
Corden is well aware of how he has been the target of pleads to reunite the group. Speaking on The Late Late Show in 2020, Corden told viewers: “There’s been a trend online that I have frankly been unable to ignore. As you can see here, I’ve had thousands of comments on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, insisting I kidnap One Direction. It’s all my feed is.”
Whilst nothing is confirmed as of yet, there’s no reason why Corden’s upcoming exit on CBS couldn’t have promoted One Direction to make the host’s last few months count. It has always been late night tradition to close a host run with a special musical performance.
