Late-night TV has come out swinging in the new year. But there are still a few shows that have yet to premiere in 2023, including Real Time with Bill Maher. So what should fans expect to see tonight on HBO?

Real Time with Bill Maher season 20 ended back on November 18. However, we’ve still heard plenty from Maher thanks to his Club Random podcast and other appearances. Yet fans know that Real Time is where Maher is at his best.

Unfortunately, we won’t get to see the comedian back in his studio on Friday night. There will not be a new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher.

Season 21 is set to premiere next week, January 20. HBO and Real Time have yet to announce a guest lineup, but that should be coming early next week.

What has the Real Time with Bill Maher host been up to?

There’s never a time when Bill Maher isn’t sharing his opinions on whatever is happening in the world. Maher is always around whether on a comedy stage, podcast, late-night TV show, or other media.

So while fans haven’t seen him on HBO in a few months, he’s been making himself heard. His Club Random podcast has welcomed various guests that have made for some memorable moments.

Bill Maher revealed that his friendship with Howard Stern has all but evaporated. The Real Time host also admitted that he has no relationship with The Late Show‘s Stephen Colbert.

Maher continued to question many of the decisions around the COVID-19 pandemic. He went back and forth with scientific author Richard Dawkins in one podcast episode. Then, Maher’s comments about “woke” academia earned the praise of Fox News host Greg Gutfeld.

All in all, it hasn’t been a relaxing vacation for Bill Maher in terms of keeping his name out of the headlines. Then again, that’s usually the way Maher prefers it. Expect more of the same with Real Time premieres next week.
