Stephen Colbert made news last week after officially banning Kanye West from ever appearing on The Late Show.

Speaking on Thursday night, amidst a controversy surrounding the rapper over antisemitism claims, the CBS host told viewers: “After much thought and soul-searching I, Stephen Colbert, am banning Kanye West from the Ed Sullivan Theater.”

The host’s comments ignited huge applause from the studio audience. “I have to,” Colbert mumbled to his band.

Remember, this isn’t the first time Colbert has spoken on Kanye West’s antics. Back in May of 2016, it seemed Colbert was defending Ye after the rapper went on a manic rant during an appearance on The Ellen Show.

After posting a number of comments widely regarded as anti-semitic, Kanye has faced major backlash, including losing a number of corporate deals.

Kanye (now legally known as Ye) lost his partnership deal with Adidas last week after his controversial comments.

Brands give Ye the sack

Adidas has now pulled any products related to Ye after labelling the music star’s recent online behaviour “unacceptable, hateful and dangerous.”

Ye’s image, still under the microscope of the millions scrutinising has attempted to address his comments during a number of interview appearances.

The rapper made a number of unverifiable claims about Jewish people during an appearance on The Lex Friedman podcast. Friedman, a personality of Jewish faith was keen to dismantle a number of assertions made by the rapper with little success.

Friedman still offered advice to Ye, saying: “Don’t call them Jews, call them by their name and start a war against those individuals.”

Colbert claimed his choice to ban Ye came after reports came out that the musician had shown up unannounced at the Sketchers offices whilst filming unauthorised.

The Late Show host is the first to make an announcement of this kind amongst his other late-night colleagues.

Kanye has previously appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden and Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Ye has made a small number of appearances on mainstream media outlets in recent weeks but has strayed away from appearing on entertainment shows. He once again made headlines after starring in a now-viral interview with Fox Nation’s Piers Morgan.
