Mo Gilligan at “top of the list” to replace James Corden on Late Late Show
With James Corden set to leave The Late Late Show by 2023, new names who could replace the host are emerging.
A source revealed to The Sun this week that Mo Gilligan could very well become a late night star in the US.
Speaking to the outlet, they said: “TV execs can’t get enough of Mo. They appreciate that, like James when he first started, Mo’s currently not a household name in the US but he’s got the potential to be.”
Before making his debut on CBS, Corden was almost a completely unfamiliar face to US audiences.
“A shortlist of replacements for James is being drawn up and Mo is at the top of the list,” the source continued.
In recent years, The Late Late Show has opted to take on hosts from the UK, with Craig Ferguson and James Corden now established Hollywood stars.
Mo Gilligan is already a talk show star in the UK
Gilligan could be the safest bet for CBS. He has hosted his own talk show on the Channel 4 network in the UK for three seasons and counting.
Gilligan has also worked on a number of other major TV projects in the UK, including his duties as a detective on The Masked Singer. A seat at the late night table, however, would top all of his prior television achievements.
CBS have made no official announcement on Corden’s replacement as of yet. James Corden is still set to see out another few months on The Late Late Show before his departure in the new year.
