Saturday Night Live finally returns tonight for the season 48 premiere. Of course, the question on fans’ minds is who will host the first episode of the year.

The show has had months to decide on who will be in the Studio 8H spotlight for the season premiere. Last year, the host list was dominated by first-timers; and it looks like season 48 will start the same way.

Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller will host tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Live. He’ll be joined by musical guest Kendrick Lamar.

As mentioned, it will be Teller’s first time hosting SNL. He’ll undoubtedly reference his role in the blockbuster movie co-starring Tom Cruise in his monologue. From there, it will be up to Teller to prove SNL made the right call.

Can Miles Teller keep up as host of Saturday Night Live?

Miles Teller has shown no shortage of charisma off-screen. On-screen, he’s starred in a blend of different comedies, including rom-coms like Two Night Stand and black comedies like War Dogs.

That experience should come in handy as Teller jumps in front of a live audience. There’s also the added pressure of the season premiere and the significant changes to the cast.

Those cast changes should also affect Teller’s performance as host. Tonight, there will be no Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, or Chris Redd to carry a sketch. Pete Davidson, Kyle Mooney, Melissa Villasenor, Alex Moffat, and Aristotle Athari round out the list of cast members who left after last season.

Saturday Night Live airs tonight, October 1, at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC. The show will also stream concurrently on Peacock.
