Saturday Night Live has been making headlines over the past few weeks. Has it all been building to a brand new episode tonight?

SNL fans know that the show will look very different when it returns for season 48. Some of the show’s most beloved cast members moved on, while a new group of featured players joined the show.

However, we won’t get to see how that all plays out tonight. There will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.

Instead, NBC will reair a past episode in the show’s normal 11:30 p.m. ET timeslot. Saturday Night Live will premiere its new season on October 1.

Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller will make his SNL debut as host. The show will welcome back Kendrick Lamar as the musical guest.

Teller’s episode will be the first of three consecutive new episodes to start season 48. On October 8, Brendan Gleeson will host with musical guest Willow. Then on October 15, Megan Thee Stallion pulls double duty as both the host and musical guest.

Who left and who’s new at Saturday Night Live for season 48

Lorne Michaels hasn’t been shy about calling the 2022-2023 season of Saturday Night Live a year of big changes. The cast experienced one of its biggest turnovers in recent memory.

Aidy Bryant, Alex Moffat, Aristotle Athari, Chris Redd, Kate McKinnon, Kyle Mooney, Melissa Villasenor, and Pete Davidson all said goodbye to SNL after last season.

New cast members join the show as featured players include Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker.
