Ahead of season 48, Saturday Night Live fans learned that Melissa Villaseñor was among three cast members departing the show. The comedian recently shared what went into the decision.

Villaseñor, Alex Moffat, and Aristotle Athari will not be part of Saturday Night Live season 48 when it kicks off next month. Both Villaseñor and Moffat joined the show in 2016, while Athari came aboard last year. They joined Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Kyle Mooney on the list of faces who won’t be back.

On Sunday, Villaseñor took to Twitter to shed some light on her decision. While some fans could see her departure coming, they learned it wasn’t an easy decision for the talented comedian.

It doesn’t sound like Villaseñor has any hard feelings about her Saturday Night Live tenure. Past social media posts have suggested she wasn’t always happy with her screen time. However, she made it clear that it was an “honor” to be on SNL and that she’ll remain “forever grateful.”

Melissa Villaseñor’s Twitter post gave fans a chance to share their thoughts on her Saturday Night Live exit. The responses were overwhelmingly positive.

Many fans wished Villaseñor luck in whatever comes next. Others admitted that her sketch work and impressions were among their favorite parts of SNL in recent years.

On Reddit, she received even more love. Users are already lamenting the loss of her “Weekend Update” appearances. Some fans chimed in with their favorite sketches from her. Most agreed that her dirty talk sketch was the best.
