Saturday Night Live fans want Billy Eichner, Zendaya, and more to host this season
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live season 48 is just around the corner, meaning we’ll find out who’s hosting the premiere soon. Fans took to social media to share their dream SNL hosts for this season.
Last season was filled with first-timers. 17 out of 21 episodes featured a hosting making their Saturday Night Live debut as a host. The list included Owen Wilson, Kim Kardashian, Ariana DeBose, and Lizzo among others.
SNL reached out to its millions of followers on Instagram and Twitter to ask who they want to see host an episode in season 48. An overwhelming number of votes went to Billy Eichner and Zendaya.
Billy Eichner seems like a no-brainer choice. He has years of experience in late-night TV, doing bits for Conan O’Brien and making memorable guest appearances. Eichner also guest-hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live! and his TV comedy credits include Parks and Rec, Difficult People, and Friends From College. And of course, Eichner proved he could more than hold his own in front of a live New York City audience with Billy on the Street.
On September 30, Eichner stars in Bros. He co-wrote the romantic comedy and will be joined by an almost entirely LGBTQ cast. Bros will be the first gay romantic comedy from a major studio. It also just so happens that the studio is Universal Pictures, owned by NBCUniversal. So it would definitely be a good idea to put Eichner on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
Zendaya, the other fan-favorite pick, is probably overdue to host SNL. In addition to her role in the blockbuster Spider-Man movies, she’s won awards for her part in HBO’s Euphoria. Season 3 of the drama is on the way from HBO.
Few performers have the versatility as Zendaya. Plus, she has a dedicated fanbase that would undoubtedly tune in to see her on SNL.
Who else do fans want to see host Saturday Night Live?
Plenty of other stars received a vote of confidence from Saturday Night Live fans. Some, like Simu Liu, even volunteered for the job.
Weird Al, Bill Hader, Carol Burnett, and Quinta Brunson all got votes on Twitter. Over on Instagram, names like Ryan Reynolds, Andy Samberg, Florence Pugh, and Nathan Fielder all racked up likes from fans.
There’s a decent chance that one or more of the names mentioned by fans get the call from Saturday Night Live. We’ll find out when SNL season 48 premieres this fall.
