Late Night with Seth Meyers was abruptly cancelled this morning after the NBC host tested positive for COVID-19.

On Twitter, Meyers told viewers: “After negative tests Monday and Tuesday I tested positive for COVID this morning. Canceling shows the rest of this week. Apologies to our scheduled guests and loyal viewers!”

The late night show is expected to halt all production for the rest of the week.

Meyers contracts COVID-19 for the second time this year

This is the second time the NBC host has been forced to cancel shows after contracting COVID-19. Back in January, Late Night was put on hold during a short surge in cases as the winter period progressed.

ABC’s primetime late night host, Jimmy Kimmel also tested positive for the virus back in May. Instead, the network chose to keep the show on the air, opting to use temporary replacement hosts whilst Kimmel recovered at home.

Chelsea Handler was the most recent celebrity face to fill in for Kimmel, a late night veteran on the E! Network.

After her week on the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Handler announced an official return to late night on Twitter. She told fans, “Regarding my return to late-night; I’m ready. I feel like this is a time… where it’s so important to be represented and to be representing women and to remind people why its so important to be loud and and strong…”

As for Meyers, we can likely expect the host to return to his usual duties sometime next week. And of course, we wish him a speedy recovery.
