Jimmy Kimmel Live’s first guest host of the summer starts tonight
By Matt Moore
Jimmy Kimmel officially starts his summer vacation tonight. In his place, a collection of guest hosts will get their chance to host Jimmy Kimmel Live! beginning on Monday night.
Kimmel began taking summers off two years ago as part of an agreement in his contract with ABC. Past guest hosts have included David Spade, Dua Lipa, and Anthony Anderson.
Monday night, actor Sean Hayes gets his turn. He’s an easy choice for many reasons: he’s friends with Kimmel, has appeared as a guest several times, and has been a guest host in the past. The Will & Grace star is scheduled to host all week long.
Hayes also has a handful of projects that could get a boost in promotion by the actor’s guest hosting gig. He co-stars in the comedy-drama Am I OK? directed by Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne, coming to HBO Max. Hayes also co-hosts the podcast “Smartless” with Jason Bateman and Will Arnett.
Who’s on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight?
As with any late-night TV show, the host can only do so much. The guest lineup can make or break an episode. Here’s who guest host Sean Hayes will chat with on Monday night.
First, actor Jenny Slate joins the show. The Saturday Night Live alum lent her voice to the Netflix animated series Q-Force starring Hayes. Slate also appeared in the critically-acclaimed film Everything Everywhere All at Once and can be heard in the Bob’s Burgers movie as Tammy.
Then, actor and filmmaker Cooper Raiff stops by to chat. His film Cha Cha Real Smooth debuted at Sundance and hit Apple TV+ on June 17. Raiff stars in the comedy-drama alongside Dakota Johnson.
Tonight’s musical guest is Weezer. The rock band released its album Van Weezer in 2021. The EP SZNZ: Summer is set for a June 21 release. Weezer is currently on tour in Europe with Green Day and Fall Out Boy, so don’t expect a live performance on tonight’s show.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! with guest host Sean Hayes airs tonight at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.
