Who’s hosting Saturday Night Live tonight, May 14?
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live returns tonight with another brand new episode. So who should SNL fans expect to see take the stage in Studio 8H tonight on NBC?
Benedict Cumberbatch returned as host last week, becoming only the fourth repeat host of Saturday Night Live season 47. It’s mostly been first-timers who have been in the SNL spotlight this season.
Look for that trend to continue on Saturday’s episode. Selena Gomez will make her debut as host of Saturday Night Live. She’ll be joined by first-time musical guest Post Malone.
Gomez has appeared on SNL in the past. She was a musical guest in season 41 on the January 23, 2016 episode hosted by Ronda Rousey.
What to expect from Selena Gomez as host of Saturday Night Live
Selena Gomez currently stars as Mabel Mora in the mystery/comedy Only Murders in the Building. Season 2 is set to debut on Hulu on June 28. The show proves that Gomez can hold her own alongside comedy icons Steve Martin and Martin Short.
It’s fair to say that the experience on Only Murders will come in handy for Gomez on Saturday Night Live. If she needed advice, there aren’t many options better than Martin and Short. In fact, don’t be surprised if they pop up in the monologue or a sketch to support Gomez.
Regardless, Gomez has been performing since she was 10 years old. She’s used to performing in front of a live audience, whether that’s singing, dancing, or acting in comedies and dramas. There shouldn’t be anything SNL throws at her that she can’t handle.
Back in 2016, Gomez appeared in a sketch alongside host Ronda Rousey. So even though it was six years ago, it may have provided a small taste of what to expect when it comes to performing sketch comedy.
