Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, May 14?
By Matt Moore
There are only a couple of episodes left in Saturday Night Live season 47. So what should SNL fans expect to see tonight on NBC?
Typically, SNL airs 21 episodes in a regular season. Last week’s episode hosted by Benedict Cumberbatch was number 19.
And on Saturday, fans will get episode 20. There will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.
Actor and singer Selena Gomez is the host. She’ll be supported by musical guest Post Malone.
While this is Gomez’s first time as SNL host, she did appear as a musical guest back in 2016. It will be the first visit for Post Malone.
What to expect from Saturday Night Live tonight
Selena Gomez will promote season two of her Hulu series Only Murders in the Building. The show co-stars two comedians with long ties to Saturday Night Live: Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Given that connection and how the end of the SNL season typically brings more cameos, there’s a decent chance that Martin and Short pop up in tonight’s episode. If they do, expect an extended ovation for the comedy legends.
Also, don’t be surprised if SNL sends out James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump one more time. News reports over the past week suggest the former president wondered if the U.S. could bomb Mexico to stop drug cartels and asked if China had a “hurricane gun.”
Post Malone’s larger-than-life personality would also make him a good fit for a sketch. Pete Davidson and Chris Redd usually bring rapper musical guests into the fold for their music video and song parodies. It’s a safe bet to say Post Malone would be game.
