Jeopardy! returned on Thursday with its third defending champion of the week. So, did we get a new champion tonight?
Daniel Nguyen, a high school math teacher from San Jose, California, entered Thursday night’s game as a one-day champion. On Wednesday, he took home $7,199.
Trying to knock him off the winner’s podium tonight were Charly Kuecks, a writer and test prep expert from Salt Lake City, Utah, and Matt Petroff, a management consultant from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Who won Jeopardy! tonight?
Daniel Nguyen got off to a fast start, answering 10 out of 11 “Jeopardy!” round questions correctly. He finished in first place with $6,000. In second sat Matt Petroff with $2,600, followed by Charly Kuecks with $800.
Despite answering both “Daily Double” questions incorrectly, Nguyen maintained his lead through “Double Jeopardy!” play. He banked $18,000, while Kuecks finished with $7,600 and Petroff with $200.
Nguyen didn’t have to risk anything in “Final Jeopardy!” and that’s exactly what he did. He still answered correctly on his way to becoming a two-day Jeopardy! champion with winnings totaling $25,199.

Daniel Nguyen and Matt Petroff both came up with the correct response. Charly Kuecks incorrectly wrote down Spain as her answer, costing her $4,799.
