Jeopardy! returned on Wednesday night with another brand new episode. Returning champion Mallory Kass looked to make it two games in a row.

Kass, a children’s book editor from Brooklyn, New York, ended Danielle Maurer’s streak at two games last night. She hoped to avoid the same fate as Maurer on Wednesday.

Her opponents included Daniel Nguyen, a high school math teacher from San Jose, California, and Micaela Tuttle, a wine import manager from Nashville, Tennessee.

Who won Jeopardy! tonight?

Mallory Kass got off to a rough start in the “Jeopardy!” round. Daniel Nguyen led with $5,200, followed by Micaela Tuttle at $3,800, and Kass in third with $600.

The standings stayed the same after “Double Jeopardy!” finished. Nguyen banked $13,00, Tuttle had $9,400, and Kass had $6,200.

All three players answered “Final Jeopardy!” incorrectly. However, some smart wagering from Nguyen gave the math teacher the victory and made him the new Jeopardy! champion.

Answer: What is Clemenza?

Mallory Kass wrote down “Maest,” Micaela Tuttle came up with “Mercia,” and Daniel Nguyen tried “Vikes” as his response. The clue referenced a character from the 1972 classic film The Godfather. Tonight’s three players apparently weren’t familiar enough with the movie!
